POSITION: Bus Monitor/TA
CLASSIFICATION: Regular
Full-Time Program Year Employee, Bargaining Unit
SUPERVISOR: Site Administrator
POSITION SUMMARY
Rides on
Agency vehicles to monitor the actions and activities of the children on the
vehicle to ensure safety and discipline. Also assists in classrooms as needed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.
Rides on assigned bus to ensure
bus rules are followed.
2.
Ensures children are seated and
in appropriate child restraint system.
3.
Assists with child restraint
system.
4.
Helps children on and off bus,
including crossing roads and highways.
5.
Distributes messages or other
material from center to parents or parents to center.
6.
Ensures that each child
disembarks the bus with all belongings after each route.
7.
Carries cell phone and is
responsible for all communication for the bus.
8.
Completes a post-trip check of
the bus interior to ensure that no children or baggage are remaining.
9.
Maintains seating chart for bus.
10. Maintains daily attendance log for each route.
11. Assists with head count when loading and unloading the bus.
12. Compares head count to attendance log to ensure that all children are
accounted for.
13. Assists substitute bus drivers with route or other bus routine issues.
14. Maintains clean and safe environment inside the bus.
15. Ensures that child restraint systems are clean and in proper working
condition.
16. Communicates with parents regarding child, program, etc.
17. Encourages in-kind donations through daily communication or reminders to
parents and communication with the community.
18. Implements emergency evacuation procedures for scheduled drills or in
case of emergency.
19. Helps teaching staff prepare children for departure or arrival and
ensures that they have all belongings.
20. Assists in classrooms as assigned by supervisor (see Teacher Assistant
job description).
21. Submits accurate and complete time sheets to supervisor bi-weekly or as
requested.
22. Promotes Lake-Geauga United Head Start, Inc. in the community and
recruits children for the program as appropriate.
23. Attends trainings and meetings as required by the program calendar,
supervisor, Fiscal Officer or professional development plan, or as required by
state or federal law.
24. Other duties as assigned.
25. Mandatory participation in annual self-assessment if selected.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Tasks may involve unplanned or procedure specific exposure to bodily
fluids and possible exposure to communicable diseases. Risk involved with travel on main highways
and rural roads and evening travel.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School Diploma or
equivalent

criminal background supported by background check

first aid, communicable disease and CPR courses or ability to complete courses
